Which Metal Gear Solid Game Is The Best?

I have a hard time with this one. I'd like to say that I like 4 the best, as it is one of my favorite games of all time. As I think about it however, I realize I have beaten the first metal gear solid game WAY more than 4 (considering it is way shorter) and I think I like the story in the first solid the best.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is batshit insane and borderline incomprehensible, But I still love it. 3 kinda pisses me off because even with the new camera in subsistance I find myself getting seen a lot. I also don't really care for jungle environments but it grew on me (great bosses too). What do you guys think?

  1. Id have to agree, all 4 were great, but 1 was the most memorable with the music, story, charecters, gameplay, setting, everything about it is more memorable then 2, 3 and 4.

  2. I loved 4 the most. One of the very few times I ever legitimately cried at a video game.

  4. As much as I love all the games in this series, my favorite is probably MGS3. I actually love the jungle setting and the camo system, and it has my favorite boss battles of any game in existence. But I do agree that the Susbsistance camera is awkward and leads to getting caught a lot more than usual, so I typically leave it set to the original Snake Eater camera. But I could never argue with someone preferring one of the other games, because they are just that great.

  5. I like 4 the best. Hey Rob you should give Peace walker a try, if you can look past the gameplay it has a great story to it. What do you think of the rumours of MGS 5 being a prequel to MGS3? I heard it was going to be about the boss in WW2 or her life leading up to Snake eater.

  6. I honestly think 3 is the best. the jungle and camo made it feel like a gritty jungle kinda thing predator or tears of the sun kinda.plu finding out the origins first hand was kool. 2 i really didnt like the bosses especially vamp. Im glad they explained his deal in 4 but he really tore me away from the implied realism of the game and imo opened the door for bosses with supernatural ability i love the first game it was probably the first playstation game i beat multiple times on rental

  7. well i never really played 3 and 4, but i´ve beaten 1 and 2 a thousand times and 2 is probably my favorite. although you do have to beat the game like 2 or 3 times to fully understand what the fuck is going on, i still love the story. i also liked Raiden. dunno why so many people bitched about it, you still have Snake around being a badass throughout the entire game.

  9. Personally 4 is my favorite. I loved the story, the boss fights, and the improved shooting mechanics and the multiple ways of approaching different situations. The section where you return to Shadow Moses and Snake has all those flash backs was also an incredible thing to experience. It was also one of the few games I had played in a long time where the game actually had a great ending which perfectly wrapped up the story.

  10. it really is a toss up between 1 and 3 for me. Metal gear solid one had an amazing story, deep characters, and very fun gameplay which required strategy. Yet metal gear solid 3 was cool in that it was set during the cold war era. the stealth mechanics, camo, and stamina made the gameplay varied and refreshing. again, the story was amazing with all of the twists. its interesting to see the backstory to the patriots and Big Boss. Further, the characters made an impact on me. The boss and Ocelot come to mind, as their thoughts, emotions, and hidden selves always made them interesting. there is also a perfect balance of cinematography (cutscenes), gameplay, and radio (CODEC). Metal gear solid 2 and 1 told too much story through codec, and 4 had great yet lengthy cutscenes. 3 had the perfect balance.

  11. For me i would have to say MGS3 Snake Eater. i loved everything about that game. Especially the ending, that ending is incredible. That game has some of most epic boss fights. Especially the fights against The End and The Boss. MGS1 is fantastic but i played that game later in fact the first one i played was MGS2 so they gameplay in MGS 1 felt dated but it was a great game. MGS2 has its moments it does have some humor in it but you don't play as snake the whole time which why i thought it was just decent but not terrible. definitely the worst MGS out of all of them. MGS4 was fantastic and some crazy ass moments but had ridiculously long cut scenes.

  13. Oh easily MGS4. Gregson Williams created one of the most emotionally moving soundtracks in gaming. The ending was so epic and moved me to tears on multiple occasions. The final boss cut scene is the best scene in gaming period in my opinion, the fight combined with metal gear saga moves me even after the 100th time of seeing it. I have played the game nearly 30 times and I can say it is one of the most detailed and packed campaigns in gaming. In all that time not a single glitch has occurred. It is the most polished game ive ever witnessed. The story line is complicated, weird, and awesome much like blade runner. The cinematography in the cut scenes is top notch movie quality. I cant say enough great things about this game. It is the best game ever made.

  15. my favorite will always be MGS3. I love the gameplay and I love all of the different environments. Swamps, jungles, forests, caves, cabins...it really covers a lot of ground. I also really liked the story. Yeah maybe the story itself wasn't great, but the fact that it was mainly character driven really makes me love it. The Boss is one of the best video game characters in my opinion; it's great to see a female video game character who isn't sexualized.

  16. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't really emotionally moved by the ending to MGS 3 as a lot of other people were. I guess it could be because The Boss kind of sounds a bit monotone throughout the game. Don't get me wrong, it still is an absolutely amazing game with an exellent storyline.

  20. MGS1 is my favorite. The first time my brother rented the game, it blew my mind. I can even pen point the moment it did in fact. It's when you step into a puddle... and the soldier goes, "huh? What was that noise?". As a kid, I couldn't believe that a game could be that realistic.

  21. MGS 3 because you get to see how naked snake earned his title of big boss. Plus you get to be in a jungle environment and that's a nice change of pace form urban environment's in my opinion anyway.
