The Dragon Age Games

What is everyone's opinion on these games? I liked the first one even though it was janky on the ps3 and I'm not really a pc gamer, I saw what made that game work. Dragon age II just seems like it drops the ball on too many fronts. Way too dumbed down. It seems like the sugar free diet version of Origins. What is everyone's opinion?

  1. My opinion may be in the minority but I but I enjoyed Dragon Age 2's combat system a whole lot more than Origins.

To me, pausing the game every second in Origins is just not fun in what is supposed to be a real-time combat system. If I wanted constant pauses, I'd play a turn based RPG instead. Proper Tactics slot management can help somewhat but the friendly AI is still unbelievably stupid (e.g. walking into traps already exposed by my rogue or ranged fighters blindly charging in to melee range before starting their attack). Not to mention that enemies get ridiculously over-powered should you wander into the wrong area too early (e.g. the Dalish Forest is perhaps the BIGGEST offender here because it's so close to the starting areas of the game). In Dragon Age 2, party members could at least "Survive" without me babysitting them throughout the entire fight. In addition, I REALLY liked how you could physically dodge projectiles such as arrows and spells in Dragon Age 2 whereas in Origins, they are completely unavoidable because they home in on you.

It's just a darn shame that Bioware cut so many corners with Dragon Age 2 including heavily recycling areas, enemies popping out of thin air, lackluster story, forgettable characters (except for Varric whom has a lot more personality than everyone else), and overall shortage of content. Give me Dragon Age 2 style party member AI and combat system (minus instantly appearing enemies) and Dragon Age: Origins rich story, characters, and environments and I'd be very happy. Here's hoping for Dragon Age 3 whenever that comes out. I'm not surprised that Bioware canned the expansion pack that nobody heard of. Not many would buy it at this point.

    1. I agree whole-heartedly with you. I didn't notice how much I preferred the combat in Dragon Age 2 until I went back to play Origins again. For everything Dragon Age 2 did wrong (pretty much everything other than the combat) they did manage to make the combat much more enjoyable.

  3. Dragon Age 1 Is more like icewind dale and baldurs gate.. which I LOVE. I wasted 60 bucks on dragon age 2. I think i played it for 5 minutes.. i just could not get into it.

  4. i loved Dragon Age Origins it reminded my so much of an old series that i still love and that Baldurs Gate. i never played Dragon Age 2 because i heard bad things about it. Oh how the mighty have fallen, Bioware use to make such great games. Now a lot of there games are streamlined and or are just terrible.

  6. Honestly man I left a comment on your video saying I started it not too long ago and quit shortly after, I started as a Mage and the prelude/intro was SO fucking boring, that put me off from the get-go, I don't know, the rest just didn't seem interesting to me, I should have put more time into it I guess.

I started as a Figher yesterday, MUCH more interesting background story and not as unnecessarily dragged out, like the Mage's was.

I'm 8 hours into it right now and honestly I think it's pretty good, not bad at all.

And @Patzilla, it has SOME similar elements to Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, but Baldur's Gate absolutely murders Dragon Age, although DA seems quite good.

I've also noticed slight framerate issues on the PS3 version myself, ergh... I love the PS3 but I need to beef up my PC, DA is obviously a game that was made for the PC, I really hope Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition doesn't get a console port, they'd water it all down like crazy.
