So what do you guys think of Mass Effect 3?

My brother got his copy in the mail today and I am just waiting on him to get home so I can see it in action. My history with Mass Effect is kinda shaky. I played a lot of the first but even though I own the second I never beat it. What is everyone's thoughts. Post your reviews here!

  1. I think mass effect 2 is pretty overrated. The only thing I really liked in that game was the character interaction. the combat was just "ok." its not on par with gears, uncharted, or vanquish, but the game is an RPG, not an action game. that being said though, the RPG customization elements I thought were lacking as well. instead of leveling up chosen stats, you are mostly dealing with finding your upgrades in levels. so I didnt feel like I was really in control of my character's progression.

due to the game's scope, story, and overall polish, I would give it a 9/10

it certainly didnt deserve GOTY that year. that is the same year god of war 3 and heavy rain came out, games that both easily deserve 10/10s.

  2. Even though the collector's edition is kinda weak, the game itself is pretty spectacular. It doesn't offer anything wholly original, but the game does feel much more polished and refined than the previous entries. I've only scratched the surface of the campaign, and so far I'm impressed.

  3. Having finished this game and having time to reflect, I would give it 5 or 6 out of 10. The gameplay is excellent but it (and the graphics remain the same as ME2). The storyline though has more plot holes than any other game I have played (of any franchise series) and they have significantly reduced the player’s dialogue choices in the story.

Anyone who says that the DLC was optional is deluded because the character gives vital insight to the mythology and storyline throughout the game by his unique dialogue. By removing it they have taken a core part of the story away (unless you pay for it). Leaving all that aside though the gameplay is very much like ME2 with minor improvements (noticeably the Omni tool melee, no more hacking etc.), the RPG element of the game is nearly non-existent though and the side missions are time restricted but there is no way of knowing when the time is up during the gameplay. A staple of the series has been the carry-over of the player’s choices but this game ignores that fact and makes the storyline way more linear. The endings are terrible and this game is summed up by the ending message telling people to buy more DLC to relive the legendary missions of Shepard.

In terms of actual creativity and innovation then this image sums up the development of ME3 entirely. http://i.imgur.com/itZ7d.jpg
These are just some of the examples and there are plenty more.

Oh and some of the in game music was ripped/plagiarised from the 1985 film Enemy Mine. Another complaint is that it doesn't import a players Shepard that was used in the original and second game. There is no patch as of yet for it and also some forums have mentioned that ps3 files can sometimes become corrupted for no reason at all.

I realise it is easy to complain and find fault but this game was the finale, at E3 2011 they promised so much and failed to deliver those promises. Having said all that though, this game is still good but it doesn’t deliver what was promised to its original fan base.

  5. I love ur youtube channel Rob and have already subscribed. Just thought I'd add this bit of info about the game and corupt EA. Metacritic has been removing negative reviews for the game on PC because it is too low for user reviews and they say it is trolling. Some longtime users, my friend being 1 of them gave the game a 4 and wrote a long detailed reason but the comment along with others was removed and she was blocked. Bioware's forum removed my thread about areas I felt could be improved because it was "aggressively negative" when it was not. Other users where blocked fromt the site for posting similar thread all of wich were polite but bioware removed without just reason. /do EA bioware have this sort of power to control review forums like this or has the world gone bonkers?

    1. I wish it would come back to haunt them, but lets look at the reality of sheep gamers nowadays. People still worshiped Bethsheda despite Skyrim being a broken, buggy mess. Skyrim still got game of the year and people will still jump down your throat if you dare mention that skyrim isn't that great, especially for something that is supposed to be a finished product. That amount of fanboys exists for Mass Effect 3 if not more and the fact is, as sad as it is, I don't think its going to come back to haunt them at all.

    2. Last night there was 1,132 neagtive reviews for the PC version of ME3, today there is 700 negative reviews. The good reviews have not increased in a day. PS3 has remained the same, though the issues they have are far worse - poor framerate, corrupt save files, glitches and xbox 360 has actual critics giving their user reviews in the users section (a perfect 10 score). The xbox version is deleting anyone who gives below a 4, though there keep being new 0 scores added everyday.

The bioware forums are the worst though, not only do the ban you from the forums for mentioning anything about the writers, remove negative threads (that can get you a temporary ban) if you have your game registered as part of your user account then the they will block your online access as well.

This is the new world of gaming and it makes very depressed.

    3. Actually there is a proper ending that is considered the only official canon ending in the game. Unfortunately you need to have extensively played the online multiplayer co-op mode, finished the dlc, imported a save file with ME1 and ME2 as well as the iOS app feature too. This info has been confirmed on the ME wiki which has a blog linking a very detailed playthrough article with all the stats and maths of this new war asset feature detailed.

So basically, you can't finish the actual game without paying for it.

    4. Actually the bioware forums has exploded with complaints about the terrible plot hole riddled endings. They can't remove them all so they have merged it into one thread that is heavily monitored by newly promoted (pro-bioware) users, over 20 of them. Seriously, fans are pissed off and rightly so but one word out of place on this thread gets you a 2 week ban. Also, one of the writers on Me3 posted a response saying this story was written for bioware and not for trolls. Are they seriously going to give us this garbage. The canon ending is impossible to get unless you purchase all the other parts of the game. Biowares response is a big FU to its fans.

  7. Great youtube vids Silent Rob, a friend recommended your channel and I immediately subscribd after watching some of your vids.About ME, the censoring thing has really gotten out of hand but thankfully there is so much negative reviews on metacritic that they cant remove them all fast enough from what i see. The Bioware Social Network is a different kittle of fish altogethr, they have removed entire threads for no reason other then a user speaking out about the games downpoints and senior members/mods just gang up on any sort of negative comment even if it is something minor. The picture the anon posted above made me laugh because its soooo accurate. I really hope you do a vid on your thoght for the game SR. :D

  8. I'm still playing it and so far it ties with ME2. The story is great and I can feel the emotions with Shepard and his teammates as they know that they are the last hope for the galaxy and seeing some of my favorite characters die in 3 made shed a tear or two for my fallen comrades. Though the only problem I have with the game (So far I think it's the only way to get the best ending) is to play the MP and worst part is that you stop playing the MP, your percentage goes down and thus making you have to keep playing the okay MP.

    1. I have heard that you need to play co-op if you want the good ending ( as well as the MP) because it is the only way to increase your war asset percentage above the necessary level.

    2. My friend and I played the MP, co,op and had that crappy iOS gameplay feature and I still didnt gt the damn mythical perfect ending bullsh*t. War aessts is poorly implemented because I only found out you after beating the damn thing that i needed to do all the ***** time limited side quests as well.... DXHR clone crap.

  9. I haven't played it yet but it looks impressive. In fact, I need to complete Mass Effect 2 first, which I've had for about a year and still haven't beaten it yet. Not even sure how far I am. Still, ME3 still looks pretty fun despite some BS that surrounds it.

  10. Something very disturbing is going on in the bioware forums. People are actually asking for a DLC to be made for a better ending and that they will pay for it (anything up to $20). They have created polls asking for this and how much would you be will to pay. So far there are over 5000 votes for it. and numerous people have it as a signature on the posts in other threads.... is this the future of gaming? Just too depressing

  11. I rented the first one (and thought it was pretty damn good!) but just couldn't be bothered with the talking parts so I brought it back.

  12. The edings were ass gravy. the problem with them is that it seems no matter how perfect you got everything, how much time you spent on all 3 games, you still get what feels like the worst ending. If there IS another ending, i have no idea how to get it. Do you really have to do EVRY SINGLE FUCKIN SIDE QUEST JUST TO GET A GOOD ENDING? BULLSHIT!

    1. No, all the endings are the same including the new game+ ending but with minor idiotic differences. They cut out a key conversation with anderson too, the DLC is already on the disk (PC players can access it by changing a code in the .ini file). You 100% need to play MP and use the iOS to get the perfect ending which is still the same as all the rest but with a (literally) 2 second clip of Shepard taking his last shuddering breath (confirmed by the game writers on twitter). I read the original script (not the leaked one) that was way better then this nonsense. On twitter one of the head writers referred to the fans as "entitled spoiled kids". The bioware forums is in an uproar but a community manager on there let slip on twitter to another person in Bioware (but it was spotted by a fan/follower) that "let them complain, each hit makes us more on advertisments. ha ha."

Welcome to the 21st century of gaming where gamers are treated like this. Forbes techonomy section took note of the fanbases reaction in one of their articles and in less then a day the author of the article stated in the comment sections that he received numerous complaints from EA and bioware to remove the article.

Wikia gaming actually received numerous requests from a bioware community manager to remove a blog on the ME wiki, called "Mass effect WTF" in which users were expressing their displeasure at the games endings.

  13. Here is the proof that the dlc is already on the disk and how it can be unlocked (without paying) on the PC version. Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRRpGlmtws8

And without going into too much detail (as I have a valid source), but EA/Bioware are going to make an announcement at PAX on the 6th of April that will really piss off hardcore gamers. Though I guess such things by an anonymous like myself should be taken with a pinch of salt since I can't openly say how I know but on the 6th it will be clear.
